The department aims to prepare undergraduate students to function as community and first level physicians in accordance with the institutional goals.

  • To use epidemiology as a scientific tool to make rational decisions relevant to community and individual patient intervention.
  • To collect, analyse, interpret and present simple community and hospital based data.
  • To diagnose and manage maternal child health problems, advise a couple and the community on the family planning methods available in the context of the national priorities.
  • To diagnose & manage common nutritional problems at the individual and community level. Plan, implement and evaluate a health education programme with the skill to use simple audio-visual aids.
  • Interact with other members of the health care team and participate in the organisation of health care services and implementations of national health programmes.

Well equipped museum and demo hall.

  • To train students / intern posted at RHTC (Rural Health Training Centre) for rural based health education for the rural community attached to it.
  • Separate residential arrangements for boys and girls interns with mess facilities at RHTC.
  • To train students posted at UHTC (Urban Health Training Centre) for urban based health education for the urban community attached to it.
  • Adequate transport provided for carrying out field work and teaching and training activities by the department of community Medicine.
